Bullying, Harassment and Abuse is not acceptable in the workplace under any circumstances. Christopher’s Smile funds scientific researchers at UK academic institutions. The charity does not directly employ researchers and has to rely on the institution to oversee the behaviour of funded researchers and the behaviour of their supervisors and colleagues.
Our charity has a zero tolerance approach to any bullying, harassment or abuse especially if it is due to a person’s ability, gender, religion, ethnicity, or race. We expect our partner institutions to have the same zero tolerance approach. We have an expectation that our partner institutions take swift action if one of our funded researchers is the perpetrator of bullying, harassment or abuse. We also expect the same swift action if one of our funded researchers is the victim of bullying, harassment or abuse.
We expect our partner institutions to inform us immediately if there has been a complaint against any of our funded researchers. Likewise, we also expect to be immediately notified if one of our funded researchers has been the victim of bullying, harassment or abuse. We will not tolerate under any circumstances any attempt by an institution to cover up any wrongdoing in a vain attempt to protect the reputation of the institution or that of its staff.
We expect our partner institutions to have policies in place for the reporting of bullying, harassment and abuse. We will support any institution in taking the most severe action against any perpetrator including criminal prosecution.
We are firm believers that people should take responsibility for their own actions so we will not fund anyone who in the past have been found to bully, harass or abuse their fellow work colleagues.
We firmly believe that everyone has the right to work free of any bullying, harassment or abuse and we expect our partner institutions to foster this culture of zero tolerance with absolutely no exceptions.
